Client: Momomia
Category: Retail Packaging • Market Entry • Competitive Differentiation
Momomia is a food brand with established retail outlets known for freshly prepared momos. As part of their growth strategy, the brand planned to enter the ready-to-cook segment and required packaging that could translate their in-store experience into a retail product. The objective was to design freezer-friendly packaging that would attract attention in a highly competitive frozen food market.
The Brief / Challenge
The client required zip-lock style pouch packaging for five variants of vegetarian momos designed for ready-to-cook and ready-to-fry use. The biggest challenge was competing with established brands such as Wow Momos and Prasuma, which already had strong market presence and shelf dominance. As a new entrant, Momomia needed packaging that could immediately stand out inside refrigerated and frosted display units.
The design also had to balance:
Visual appeal
Product clarity
Brand positioning
Practical storage requirements
My Role
I was responsible for developing the complete packaging design system; from visual concept and layout planning to final artwork and print-ready production files. The focus was on creating packaging that would encourage customers to pick up the product and explore it further.
Design Process
The design process involved extensive concept exploration, visual testing, and multiple design iterations. Different layouts, color palettes, and imagery approaches were evaluated to understand what would work best in refrigerated retail environments.
A key strategic decision was choosing a white-based packaging system instead of the darker color palettes commonly used by competitors. This created strong visual contrast and ensured the product remained visible and appealing even inside frosted glass refrigerators.
Several draft concepts were refined through discussions and feedback until a final direction was approved.
