Some brands don't need an introduction. They become part of a city's identity long before they become part of its history. Bachelorr's is one of those names. For generations of Mumbaikars, a visit to Chowpatty often meant ending the evening with a Chic Choc Shake, a Roly Poly Sandwich or their iconic Sitaphal Cream. So when I was approached to work on the launch campaign for their new franchised outlet in Thane, I knew this wasn't simply another restaurant opening; it was the expansion of a legacy.
Understanding the Brief
The brief came to me through D Crush, the social media agency managing the launch communication for Bachelorr's, and it was refreshingly simple: "The Legend of South Bombay is coming to Thane."
Sometimes the strongest campaigns begin with a single line, and this one already carried decades of emotion, nostalgia and brand equity within it.
From the very beginning, I worked closely with Harsh Bedi, Purva Palav and Jai Kundaliya from D Crush. Along with the client, we spent time discussing not just what needed to be designed, but how every touchpoint could contribute to the same story. Those collaborative brainstorming sessions laid the foundation for a campaign that would celebrate Bachelorr's legacy while creating excitement among a completely new audience.
Building the Creative Direction
Instead of introducing an unfamiliar brand, my challenge was to remind people why they loved Bachelorr's in the first place while creating anticipation among those who would now experience it much closer to home.
The campaign naturally leaned into the food that has made Bachelorr's iconic over the decades. Visuals featuring the Chic Choc Shake, Mango Milkshake with Cream, Sitaphal Cream, Veg Cheese Grilled Sandwich and the much-loved Roly Poly Sandwich became the centrepiece of the communication.
Rather than feeling like product advertisements, I wanted them to evoke memories for loyal patrons while creating curiosity among first-time visitors.
From Concept to Campaign
As the discussions progressed, the project evolved into something much larger than a few promotional creatives. It became a complete launch campaign that required consistency across multiple formats while maintaining a single visual language and narrative.
The final scope included:
Three promotional standees
Grand opening banner
Newspaper insert flyers
Custom-designed Creator Carnival menu
Campaign mascot that was later transformed into a wearable costume
Although intended for a single event, I approached the Creator Carnival menu as an experience rather than a functional print piece. It became an extension of the campaign itself and was appreciated by many of the creators attending the event.
The final designs featured:
Clear product differentiation
Strong color coding
Clean typography
Shelf-friendly layouts
Consistent branding across categories
The packaging was optimized for both retail shelves and digital platforms, ensuring strong visual impact in all contexts.
The Creator Carnival successfully generated excitement around the upcoming launch, bringing together content creators from Thane and nearby areas for an exclusive preview of the brand. The event helped build organic conversations around the opening while giving attendees an opportunity to experience the campaign beyond digital communication.
The excitement seamlessly carried forward into the official inauguration on 12th June, where MLA Mr. Sanjay Kelkar attended as the chief guest. The grand opening attracted enthusiastic local crowds and also received media coverage, helping amplify the launch beyond the immediate audience and marking a successful beginning for Bachelorr's newest chapter.
The collaboration with Bachelorr's is also far from over.
One of the upcoming projects involves designing a horizontal magazine-inspired menu booklet that will combine the restaurant's menu with its history and timeline, allowing customers to discover the remarkable journey of a brand that has been serving Mumbai since the 1930s.
I look forward to approaching that project with the same philosophy; transforming a functional design piece into an experience that strengthens the customer's connection with the brand.
Every city has its landmarks. Some are buildings; some are experiences. Bachelorr's has quietly been one of Mumbai's culinary landmarks for decades, and contributing to its journey into Thane was an opportunity to translate that legacy into design.
Looking back, what stays with me isn't the number of deliverables or the scale of the launch. It's the thought that somewhere in Thane, someone might discover their new favourite place through a campaign I had the privilege to create. And for a designer, there are few outcomes more rewarding than knowing your work helped carry a story forward while staying true to where it began.
As a designer and educator, I've always believed that good design is more than aesthetics. It's about understanding people, context and purpose before putting anything on a canvas.
If you have a brand, product or idea that deserves thoughtful design, feel free to reach out. I'm always interested in meaningful conversations, interesting challenges and projects that have a story worth telling.
